Downard Hydraulics goes to great lengths to maximize the life of a component, while bearing in mind that this must be accomplished in a cost-effective manner. Application engineering is an important function of our engineering department, and it is available to appraise a customer's requirements, submit proposals and is available for preliminary meetings or consultation at no cost to our prospective customers. We can design or redesign a cylinder to meet your needs or produce a cylinder to your specifications. Our Engineering Department is headed by a registered professional engineer and we have five degreed engineers with many years of tough application experience, including not just cylinders but also complete systems and machines.

Frequently, failures can be reduced or eliminated without adding to the cost of the cylinder. The cylinders shown in the photo at right are good examples. The original units failed frequently; the replacement cylinder that we build actually costs less and lasts several times longer.

There is very little visible evidence that the cylinder is stronger than the original, but the cylinder design shown has never experienced a cylinder eye failure of any kind, while the original failed frequently in several ways: the eye broke, elongated, or the weld broke at the base of the cylinder.
